Keep Them Performing at Their Best

Your equestrian pants are a vital part of your riding and yard work gear. To ensure they last and perform as intended, proper care is essential. Whether you’re braving wet weather or tackling daily stable duties, following these tips will help you maintain your trousers’ functionality, comfort, and style.

1. Add a Waterproof Coating Although Equitare’s Muck Off Pants are showerproof, you can enhance their water resistance with a waterproofing spray or wash-in treatment.

These products provide an extra layer of protection, helping water bead off the surface and improving performance in heavy rain. Look for a product specifically designed for breathable fabrics to maintain ventilation. 2. Wash on a Cold Cycle To keep your equestrian trousers in top condition, always wash them on a cold cycle (30°C or lower).

Hot water can damage the fabric’s showerproof coating and reduce its durability over time.

3. Use a Sensitive Detergent or Skip It Entirely Avoid using harsh detergents, fabric softeners, or bleach, as these can strip the fabric of its protective properties. Instead, opt for a sensitive detergent or simply rinse the trousers with water if they’re only lightly soiled. If needed, specialty detergents for waterproof clothing are a great option.

4. Air Dry Only Avoid using a tumble dryer, as high heat can damage both the fabric and any waterproofing. Instead, air dry your trousers by hanging them in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

5. Reapply Waterproofing Periodically Over time, the showerproof coating on your trousers may wear off. Reapply a waterproofing treatment every few months, or whenever you notice water no longer beading on the surface. This simple step can extend the life of your pants and keep them performing in all conditions.
